Signing up to Hitch is easy as because it will be connected to your Facebook profile. However, all your activities on the app will not reflect on your Facebook account. Hitch promises to find you connections by using your network of contacts to find people who know people you know. It does this by importing your phone contact address book. This is optional though if you (like us) are not comfortable giving out your address book (or the private information of your contacts).
Once you open the app, before signing up or logging in, a prompt will pop-up asking for permission to turn on your GPS settings. You have the option to keep it disabled if you are paranoid about your safety. You can always turn it on when you feel like it because the prompt will be there every time you open the app.
There is no matching as such in Hitch. The main way the app connects users is by group conversations and as it gets to know your interests, it will suggest conversations on topics that you may be interested in.
The advertising for the app shows group conversations that have many users interacting about common interests. We struggled to find group conversations initiated by US members in our test, as well as any conversations with multiple participants.
One cheeky user even suggested that the app is “Facebook without friends’.
Profiles are very basic in Hitch and the vast majority of users have little, or no information displayed in their profile, which makes the credibility of the users appear quite low. Nonetheless, a lot of members have profile photos displayed which you can hope is real.
To feel safer, you can see the reputation point of a member on his or her profile, the higher the reputation points might mean that he/she is a good date.

The concept behind Hitch in wanting to create a dating app that was less about profile pics and more about finding shared interests to create more meaningful connections sounds good in theory, but the execution has hit the mark. Users do not seem connected and many of the topics being discussed are very superficial, almost like ‘small talk’.If you are looking to connect with other singles on a deeper level, matchmaking services do this via personality surveys and use the results of this to assess compatibility between members. They also structure their profiles to stimulate great conversations from the outset.
Unfortunately during our test we struggled to find active conversations to join and participate in, or active Australian users.
