New messages pop up at the side of your screen. You may dismiss them one at a time or close them at the same time. If you want to focus on browsing other members' profiles, you may hide the chat bar and friends list on the left side. Just click on the icon at the top right of the page to show them again.
As sad as it sounds, contacting members through video and text chats is only available for paying members. So if you want to message others, get ready to pay for a premium membership.
There's a wink option, which can get the attention of members if you still haven't availed of an upgrade. However, you cannot respond to or even read the messages that they send, which expire in a few days.
